PAGE21 EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH TANK!
By SDotCom 03/6/11 02:02 amR&B singer Tank released his 4th album Now or Never in December and with his new label Atlantic Records behind him he’s finally getting some well deserved shine. Tank is known for his smooth and heartfelt writing and production for Artists like Jamie Foxx, Omarion, Fantasia, Kelly Rowland, Dave Hollister and a host of others.
The album has already produced such hits as ‘Sex Music’, ‘Emergency’ and ‘Foreplay’ featuring Chris Brown. He was also nominated this year for a GRAMMY award for the track ‘Take My Time’ another duet with Chris Brown from his album Graffiti.
It’s been an amazing year for TANK and PAGE21 was able to sit with the talented (and sexy) singer to talk about his new project. Check out what Tank had to say:
PAGE21: What inspired the title of your album, “Now or Never?”
TANK: This is my piece of advice. We either, stand and fight for it now (it being real R&B), or we run the risk of losing it forever. So, it’s either now or never.
PAGE21: Do you feel there are some artists out there not giving us real music?
TANK: I think they are giving the best that they can; or their version of it. As music evolves, we still need to remember the foundation.
PAGE21: What’s the difference between this album and your last album?
TANK: It’s not as sad! My last album was real rhythm & Blues (Laughs).
PAGE21: But there was a lot of “SANGING” on that album!
TANK: There was sanging but it was a lot of sad sanging (Laughter).
PAGE21: You are truly one of the last “Sangers” out there.
TANK: I appreciated that. On this album there’s a lot more invested, more celebration, more appreciation. It focuses on the good.
PAGE21: Do you feel that your fans have grown with you?
TANK: I feel the album relates to what everyone goes through. I like to make the music personal because everyone goes through the same things in life. By making it personal, people can relate to my albums, whether its happy or sad, since it relates to real life.
PAGE21: How long has it been since your last album?
TANK: 3 years
PAGE21: What have you done during that time?
TANK: I worked on three different albums and with other artists such as, Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown, Jennifer Hudson. I was doing a lot of writing and producing for everybody, which is a blessing.
PAGE21: Are you still with Underdogs?
TANK: No. not at all
PAGE21: Who are you with now?
TANK: I have a new team called “ Song Dynasty” We’ve been doing a lot of the music you’ve been hearing over the past couple years from Letoya Luckett, Chris Brown, Omarion, and myself.
PAGE21: Let’s talk about promotion. Artists may have a great album, but with no promotion, people may not hear it. How is your promotion for this album?
TANK: Well, I’ve done more promotion in the last 6 months than I’ve done in the last 10 years of my career! So if they don’t know about it they just don’t know about it. (Laughs)
PAGE21: I honestly feel you are one of the best vocalists I’ve ever heard. Sometimes I just don’t understand how people are “sleepin” on you!
TANK: It’s not like I’ve been in a major situation for the past 10 years. We’ve (My team and I) done what we can with the Mom & Pop label we were on. We acted like one of the big dogs, we came out selling 100,000 records, but in reality we weren’t a major label. But now we’re on another level. We are now with Atlantic records.
I’ve had the opportunity to do T.V. Shows, movies, albums and I think it will take some time for people to become acclimated to seeing me more often. I’ve been around a long time so I’m like a legend but I’m still alive (laughs).
PAGE21: So do you have any songs on the album for the ladies?
TANK: My album is designed for 1AM, 2AM. If you’re freaky and kinky it can be for 1 PM (laughs).
PAGE21: Any Tours coming up?
TANK: Me and Jamie Foxx are thinking of doing one at the top of the year. Keyshia Cole and I have a duet coming out. Possibly a tour with the three of us.
PAGE21: Well TANK we are truly fans of your music and thank you for hanging out with Page21.
TANK: Anytime. I look forward to working with you in the future
